Good Health Feng Shui

I checked my Paht Chee charts and consulted with my Jyotish astrologer just to make sure (and was strongly reassured) that I was not going blind. In my charts, I am supposed to be enjoying great health. My 12th House is also clear with no malignant planets and this means that I will not be bedridden or senile no matter how old I survive to - all very reassuring news especially since I am diabetic and suffer from high blood pressure - as many of my older readers are as well. We need to be careful about our diet, our blood pressure and our sugar levels. All very annoying but these are things anyone past fifty needs to become increasingly aware of. Health becomes the most important issue on our minds.

Good Health Feng Shui

So first I re-checked my health feng shui - made sure the five elements in my home and bedrooms were properly balanced, double checked that my giant wu lou was in the right corner (South this year, where the illness star is located) and that the wind chimes placed there were happily tinkling away...

I made an appointment to see the Eye Specialist and here I met the most delightful doctor. She is young and lovely and has amazingly beautiful chi energy. I took to her instantly as she ran me through a whole series of tests, I was so impressed with the facilities and equipment at her disposal. Every aspect of my eyes was tested before she explained the diagnosis to me.

Here I have to tell you that I was at the Prince Court Hospital which is located on the intersection of Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur. I had been unaware that we had such a beautiful, well designed and super landscaped private hospital in Malaysia where the staff and facilities are just too amazing. I have to say that the modern decor and clean lines just blew me away. But the facilities and the wonderful attitude of the staff was what impressed me the most.

This is a very well-managed, well funded hospital indeed. I had been lucky. Turned out that the hospital is managed by the husband of a friend of mine. Stuart Pack, the hospital's CEO, is a turnaround specialist who had previously run Gleneagles Hospital and had been retained by Petronas to work his managerial magic on Prince Court. He explained to me that the very excellence of the hospital facilities and ultra modern decor had been a major intimidating factor - and this is understandable. With some of the best medical specialists and definitely the most modern equipment and with a great support staff from nurses to administrators and even a cook, who by the way cooks some truly delicious local specialties, it is easy for many to assume the fees of the hospital are beyond many people's budgets.

"Unfortunately many people misconstrued the 7-star label that had originally been used to describe us," he explained. Actually, the fees of Prince Court are not any more or less expensive than any other good private hospital in the country or the region.

It was Stuart who introduced me to Dr Tan Niap Ming my eye specialist and to Dr Faridah, my diabetic specialist, and I loved them both. Turned out my sugar levels showed good readings and the balancing of vitamin supplements and medications only needed some minor adjustments in terms of dosage and timing. As for my eyes, I was thrilled to discover that actually I had 20/20 vision! My problem were cataracts that were blocking my vision - unfortunately this is part of the ageing process.

So I had my cataract removed. This is an operation which is not to be confused with the lasik surgery done to correct one's eyesight and vision. Eye cataracts may be simple operations, but they are operations, and it takes at least a week for your cornea to clear up, for the "flyers" to settle, and for your eye to adjust to the light after the cataract is removed. It is not a one-hour phenomenon as so many of my friends thought it was...

But I can see clearly now! The doctor implanted lenses to let me read better so it has improved my lifestyle tremendously. In the process of doing my eye tests, I discovered that my retinas and my optic nerves were good and strong... so health-wise, my wu lou and my windchimes, and my South corner (which governs eye health) must be giving me good health feng shui.

In spite of that, it does help also to have friends in the right places. I had been thinking of looking for a good eye specialist for some time, so Stuart Pack introducing me to a doctor in whom I felt so much confidence was truly a great blessing.
