Pray Tai Sui - Grand Duke General Peng Tai

The Grand Duke Jupiter, also known as the Tai Sui is the God in charge of all Earthly matters for a particular lunar year. Under the Chinese system of heavenly stems and earthly branches, time is divided into 60 year cycles - and for each of these years, the Grand Duke manifests a different personality who takes responsibility for the smooth running of the year's affairs from his governing direction.

Pray Tai Sui

His governing direction is of course the direction of the animal sign for the year! In 2012, the Grand Duke rules from the Dragon direction of Southeast 1, in between the 112.5 and 127.5 degrees of the compass.

A GRAND DUKE of MORAL HIGHGROUND

In 2012, the reigning Grand Duke is General Peng Tai, whose historical existence stem from the Ming Dynasty.
General Peng is remembered for his scholastic brilliance and deified for his righteous and principled character. Poems and manuscripts describe him as amorally just person whose judgments were highly respected by common and noble folk alike. As minister, he devoted his life to serving the public without succumbing to the temptation of corruption; many admired him for living a humble lifestyle despite his high position and authority.

A very romantic story illustrates his honorable character! Before he became minister, General Peng was engaged to a plain peasant girl of poor parentage. After he successfully proved himself in the government examinations, he was elevated to ministerial status and his authority increased.

His family then sought to annul the nuptial arrangement now that he was considered too prominent to enter into marriage with a woman of such low status, who possessed neither beauty, wealth nor a respectable family name.

But General Peng overrode his family's decision and kept his word to marry the girl. His decision was a wise and moral one and theirs was a marriage of great happiness, one which set a shining moral example for all and it has gone down in history as the right way to be!

In a year where Fire (Creativity) is missing from the charts, it is wise for parents of school-going children to pay due respect to the Grand Duke, for those who wish to achieve academic distinction for the year. For those in business, it is prudent to act cautiously and with great honesty, otherwise there might be repercussions. This Grand Duke punishes those who are deceitful and who engage in fraudulent dealings. Such people will invite severe judgment from this righteous Grand Duke! The manifestation of this civic conscious and moral Grand Duke definitely sets the tone for 2012 - one of economic equality and moral justice across all strata of society! Country leaders, especially in places where there are currently all kinds of uprisings, would do well to heed this aspect.

SOLICITING HIS SUPPORT

In Asia, business tycoons and wealthy families ensure that they display the famous Tai Sui Plaque every year; this invokes his protection and retains his goodwill. The inscriptions and imagery on the plaque changes according to the reigning Grand Duke of the year, and talisman honors General Peng Tai upholding a Dragon. At his feet are two guardian Pi Yaos carrying the fierce implement of a flaming sword. The Tai Sui talisman plaque must be displayed in a Southeast-1 direction to appease the Tai Sui; doing so is believed to invoke his benevolence.

Pray Tai Sui

One must not run the risk of offending the Tai Sui as this will incur his wrath, unleashing financial misfortune or physical harm onto one's family. You must take care not to renovate, cut trees, or dig holes in the SOUTHEAST- 1 location of your home as this will disturb his abode. Facing him directly is also said to be disrespectful towards him, and in 2012, such is the case for those born in the years of the Dog. The Sheep, Ox and Dragon in fact all four of the EARTH signs are vulnerable as they are indirectly in conflict with the Tai Sui. These animal signs must carry Tai Sui amulets and appease him.

Those who absolutely cannot avoid conducting renovations, or are in direct or indirect "conflict" with the Grand Duke must display the Pi Yao with a flaming sword facing the direction of the Tai Sui. The Pi Yao is a powerful celestial creature known to absorb all bad vibes caused by inadvertently offending him.
